As Kennedy [1] has observed, “When Wile E. Coyote goes off a cliff, instead of falling in a parabolic arc, he comes to a halt in mid-air, hangs there until he realizes that he is no longer on solid ground, then falls”. Unfortunately, the cartoon character Wile E. Coyote is still under copyright, so that I cannot freely reproduce those cartoons. For this reason, I have created my own cartoon to illustrate this kind of “cartoon physics”, which of course does not apply to the force of gravity of physical reality, but which nevertheless sometime applies in reality e.g. in the context of financial markets. I used a donkey instead of a coyote.
Here is also a version with a black background (made available under the same permissions and license).
